Did you know that a female cat up to the age of 5 can be responsible for 20,000 descendants?

Cats Protection encourage neutering our feline friends as the only effective way to reduce the number of unwanted cats in the United Kingdom.

Cats become sexually active from the age of about 6 months. To ensure you are not going to land yourself with a litter of unwanted kittens, cats should be neutered at around the age of 4 months. Early neutering can also ensure that your male cat remains sweet and affectionate rather than becoming territorial. Male cats who have not been neutered are likely to roam, fight with other cats and spray inside the home.

In addition to unwanted pregnancy, female cats left unspayed are at risk of developing pyometra, an infection of the uterus which is fatal if left untreated. While this usually occurs in older cats, branch volunteers recently saw a case of this in a kitten of just 8 months old. Happily the kitten made a full recovery.

With our Neuter for a Fiver campaign, Cats Protection can provide financial assistance to those on a low income or benefits. Contact the branch on 01353 699430 for further details.
